Orange Heart Campaign - City of Sanctuary and Together With Refugees
Below is the time and date of the meeting planned for outside the Guildhall. :
We decided to meet at the Guildhall corner at 11.0 am on Saturday 23rd October, with our Orange Hearts. The clerk will inform Churches Together in Lichfield, the relevant clergy, Lichfield City of Sanctuary and Refugee Action.
The Orange Heart Campaign is underway and below is a link to the City of Sanctuary web-page with further information and ideas. The Orange Heart Campaign is to raise awareness and create opposition to the new Nationality and Borders Bill, which City of Sanctuary is calling the Anti-Refugee Bill and which has been criticised by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees: “UNHCR is concerned that the plan, if implemented as it stands, will undermine the 1951 Convention and international protection system, not just in the UK, but globally.” It is urgent that we contact our MPs to make our views known.
We hope that you will us the resources in this link to prepare for the Week of Action starting on 18th October: Orange Hearts can be created and shared digitally, or can be created physically and displayed in public places or in shops, cafes, places of worship etc. We are preparing an accompanying leaflet which we will share with you as soon as it is ready.
There will be a rally in London on Wednesday 20th October 16.30 - 18.30 outside Parliament. We are also encouraging local actions such as a protest or a vigil outside MPs' surgeries on Saturday 22nd October with the handing-over of previously prepared postcards (see Schools Pack for ideas) or public meetings from 18th October onwards through to the beginning of December.
