‘Blow, blow thou winter wind’ (Shakespeare. 'As you like it’) Well, we didn’t like it at all.
As we set up and got ready for action, the 'wintry' wind promptly gusted up and the milk jug went flying - not a good start to our night!
It seemed that the City was experiencing a bit of a lull following the Easter Bank Holiday, so apart from a very grateful young woman accepting a pair of flip-flops from a team ‘angel’(!) things seemed to be quite gentle, including our patrols round the streets. Two of the team met a couple of young men who had in the last five months become Undertakers. They could appreciate where we were coming from and felt privileged to share a similar ethos.
About 11.45pm things began ‘hotting up’, and included us getting our own personal floorshow when a smartly dressed gent chose to decorate the nearest wall with his own personal 'water supply' – charming!. As always seems to be the case, a passing police car just missed the event.
Several young women were relishing a night of freedom, all full of happiness and absolutely no bother. A 45 year old lady was engaged in a bout of self-reflection as to why she was even bothering with five inch heels at her age!
Quite a few hot drinks were dispensed & gratefully consumed, the night ending with a far-ranging discussion with a couple of chaps who live on Streethay Wharf.
Dear Bobby supplied us with hot chips, which were extremely welcomed, as the temperature had dropped considerably. Lichfield is a great place…..
