Celebrate the joy of books with our 2026 library tour – Treasures of the Cathedral Library.
Climb the spiral staircase to discover over 6,000 books, from historic Bibles to poetry, maps, travel, medicine, and architecture – each with a story to tell.
On the tour, you’ll find highlights from the collection including:
The Armorial of the Garter – a stunning 16th-century manuscript recording the coats of arms of the Knights of the Garter, England’s most prestigious order of chivalry, from King Edward III to Queen Elizabeth I.
A 17th-century play manuscript by renowned playwright Richard Brome – newly conserved and displayed for the first time, giving a rare glimpse into Caroline-era theatre and London’s vibrant stage culture.
Abraham Ortelius’ 1584 atlas, Theatrum Orbis Terrarum – the first modern atlas, mapping the world as it was known during the Age of Exploration.
This behind-the-scenes tour is a rare chance to see centuries of history, art, and exploration up close.
