RE-LAUNCHING THE CAFE IN THE CLOSE

Re-launching the Café in the Close

We are delighted to announce that on Saturday 02 May we will be re-opening and re-launching a café in The Close, under the oversight and management of Lichfield Cathedral.

As we’ve planned and prepared for taking the café back under our wing, we have conducted surveys with staff, congregation, volunteers and visitors, to find out what people would like in a new hospitality offering and we’ve listened carefully to the feedback.

Our aim in reopening in the café as a Cathedral enterprise is to enable us to extend our ministry of welcome and hospitality, so that those visiting us, together with the wider City, can feel like this a place to relax and find a warm welcome under the shadow of our magnificent Cathedral.

We want to create a space that appeals to our regulars and also taps into the bustling café and foody culture in Lichfield. We want to create something that will attract people from the City centre to come into The Close for high quality food and coffee. We want to create something that links to what lies at the very heart of the Cathedral, but in a very light touch way that won’t alienate people who don’t yet embrace the Christian faith, but which will also give us a way to talk about faith in a simple and approachable way. We also want the café to be a place where, in time, we can offer pastoral care to groups such as carers for those living with dementia, or those who are bereaved. And so we’re proud to introduce ‘SALT at Lichfield Cathedral’ - remembering Jesus’ words: ‘You are the salt of the earth’ and that a few grains of salt can be transformative.

We invite you to come and join us for the public opening of our café at 19 The Close on Saturday 2 May. Come and enjoy an excellent hot drink, delicious cake, a friendly welcome - in the living room of Lichfield Cathedral: SALT
