A willing team of five of us headed out onto the streets of Lichfield on a warm July evening. Because of this unexpected but welcomed Med climate, we felt we needed to utilise the newly purchased Airpot flask which got filled with ice. A large bottle of cold water and some orange squash complimented this refreshing alternative to our regular tea and coffee.
Our first visitors were some from our own ranks apparently on their way home after volunteering at the Fuse festival. Waiting close by was Paul, local business owner and an active supporter of the Listeners. He pointed out to us, a new homeless chap to the Lichfield area.
The overall ambience of the night felt good, and due, we supposed, mostly to it being the Fuse Festival weekend, young people were in an abundance, some even looking ‘too young’.There were not many deep conversations this night - just some light banter. No vomit bowls were required and seemingly, no flip flops either. Unusually, for such a busy night we had no offers of donations either.
At a later stage of the night, we were visited by yet another of person from our own ranks, on the way home from a Stag night! We encountered a couple of German students who were currently working at Whitemoor Lakes Activity Centre in Alrewas and who seemed quite impressed with what the Late Night Listeners do. A short ‘Deutsche konversation’ ensued.
Our friendly doorman, Bobby was still on holiday, so we didn't push too much on the subject of our normal offer of freshly cooked French fries. Just as we were getting ready to pack up, Charlotte, our local Tesco Champion came by, and in conversation suggested we email her for our beverage requirements (Thank You Mr Tesco!) before heading off to grab a taxi ride home.
